Skyward, Ltd. is proud to announce the award of a Direct-to-Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract through AFWERX to support the U.S. Air Force’s B-1 System Program Office, in partnership with the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR). This strategic effort will enhance proactive sustainment modeling and fail-safe analysis capabilities through a major upgrade of Skyward’s proven structural vulnerability assessment tool, SKY-STRUC™.
SKY-STRUC™ is a proven structural vulnerability assessment tool that enables rapid evaluation of residual strength and load redistribution in aircraft structures. With this contract, Skyward will expand the tool’s capabilities to address a broader range of wear and fatigue-related damage scenarios—either proactively or in response to inspection findings. The upgraded SKY-STRUC™ will provide structural analysts with critical insight, delivering results several orders of magnitude faster than traditional Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and enabling timely, informed sustainment decisions.
“This upgrade fills a crucial gap in sustainment analysis by allowing fast, scalable modeling of in-service structural conditions—especially when paired with emerging airframe digital twin models,” said Dan Cyphers, President of Skyward. “Our goal is to deliver a transformative capability that saves time and resources while improving safety and operational readiness.”
The enhanced SKY-STRUC™ will initially support the B-1 platform but is envisioned as a transportable, broadly applicable solution for sustainment challenges across military and commercial aircraft fleets. As development advances, Skyward looks forward to working closely with stakeholders across the aerospace community to demonstrate the value and versatility of this innovative tool.
